Why I Want To Be A Teacher

After much thought and consideration, I have decided to change my career path from Business to Education. I currently hold a B.A. in Business Administration but have found that the opportunities in my demographic location are in the field of Education. I live in a small county that does not pay well compared to that of a big city. By moving on to become a teacher, I will broaden my employment avenues to include, not only business prospects, but educational prospects as well.

I was previously employed by the Citrus County School System during the 2010-2011 school year. I taught ESE reading and language arts. However, halfway through the year my husband died suddenly and I took leave for the remaining of the school year. I decided to take the following school year off to pursue my Professional Teaching Certificate, with hopes of becoming reemployed in the near future.

During my experience as a teacher, I found that teaching is exactly where I want to be. I love interacting with children of the middle school age and find that a career in teaching will allow me to follow my childhood dreams. Also, I am a single mother of four school-age children, so teaching will allow me to have the type of schedule that will enable me to parent my children as I wish. Having the summers off with my children is a huge advantage of being in the teaching field.

I would also like to become a teacher so that I have the ability to tutor students who need extra help. By working in the ESE field, I found that the need for one-on-one involvement was a crucial necessity within the school system. My long-term goal is to teach within a normal classroom environment, while offering extended education to those in need.

In summary, I feel that my patience, talent and personality make me the type of teacher that can relate and respond to children in the middle school atmosphere. I have no doubt that this is the career that I plan to pursue until retirement.
